This Weekend we celebrate the Second Sunday of Advent. John the Baptist is the key figure in the Gospel. His message is: Prepare the way of the Lord, make straight his paths. John preached a baptism of repentance. We are called to ongoing conversion. One way in which we can prepare our hearts and make a straight path for the Lord to enter is to celebrate the sacrament of Penance this Advent. The first of our Vicariate Advent Penance Liturgies is this Thursday, December 14 at 7:00 PM at Saint Dominic Parish – Saint Stephen Church. If you are unable to attend this week, please see the schedule of Opportunities for the Sacrament of Penance for other options (both communal and individual) in our parish and vicariate.
You are invited to join us for Mass this Tuesday at 6:30 PM. It is the Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Further details may be found in today’s bulletin.
Just a reminder: All gifts from the Advent Giving Tree are due in the Parish office no later than this Thursday, December 14. Thanks to all who were so generous in reaching out to those in need in our community.
Next weekend, representatives of the Knights of Columbus, Council #4232, will be present for a membership drive in our parish. They will be here to answer any questions about the organization and its work, as well as to provide application forms for those interested in joining. Several men of our parish presently belong to the K of C. They would be pleased to see more representation from our parish. I am sure that they, too, would be happy to answer any of your questions. The Knights of Columbus provide its members with the opportunity to discover the importance of Charity, Unity, Fraternity, and Patriotism to our community, our country, and our world. I encourage the men in our parish to consider joining the Knights of Columbus. As you know, Father Jim is the Diocesan Chaplain. I am sure he, too, would be happy to answer any questions you may have about the K of C.
Speaking of the K of C, next Sunday, December 17, the proceeds from the breakfast are designated for Saint John Paul II Parish. Hopefully, you have marked your calendars and plan on attending the breakfast. Please support and express your gratitude to the K of C for their generosity to our parishes, to the Church, and to those in need.
Blessings on your Advent Season!
